Spark Hire Recruit's AI Resume Review is designed to speed up the hiring process by automatically reviewing candidate resumes. This tool evaluates each resume against the position’s public and internal requirements, assigning a score for each qualification (Fully met, Partially met, Missing/Not mentioned). It then calculates an overall score based on all the qualification scores and ranks candidates accordingly, helping you identify the most suitable candidates much faster. With Recruit's AI Resume Review, you spend less time sorting through resumes and more time connecting with top candidates.
It’s important to note that the AI Resume Review is only there to assist you. It allows you to:
- Automate the process of reviewing resumes, drastically reducing manual effort.
- Identify the most relevant candidates based on the position requirements.
- Reduce unconscious bias by focusing on data-driven criteria.
However, while it gives you a head start by highlighting the best matches, it doesn’t replace your judgment. You remain in complete control of the process, the final hiring decision is always yours.
Prerequisites
- The candidate must have an uploaded resume.
- The position must include a description and set requirements. The more detailed and specific the position requirements (both public and internal), the better the screening results. For example, specifying “5+ years of project management experience in the tech industry” will yield more precise results than just “project management experience.”
How it works
AI Resume Review helps you quickly review candidate resumes by comparing them to the position’s public and internal requirements.
- Once the AI Resume Review step is triggered, either manually or automatically, the AI compares the candidates’ resumes to the selected position’s requirements.
-
For each public or internal requirement, the AI rates the candidate on how well they meet it:
- Not met/Not mentioned
- Partially met
- Fully met
For example, if one of your requirements is “5+ years of experience,” a candidate with less than five years may be rated as Partially met, while a candidate with 6 years might receive Fully met.
-
Each requirement can have one of three priority levels:
- Must/Mandatory: A required qualification for the role
- Standard: A regular requirement with a normal weight in the score
- Advantage: A preferred qualification with reduced weight in the score
The AI Resume Review uses the requirement ratings and priority levels to calculate the candidate’s overall fit for the specific position: Low fit, Partial fit, Good fit, or Strong fit.
-
Knockout requirements is an optional setting that gives Must requirements a stronger effect on the fit rating.
- If Knockout requirements is enabled, one or more unmet Must requirements give the candidate a Low fit rating.
- If Knockout requirements is not enabled, Must and Standard requirements have similar weight and affect the final rating in the same way.
- Candidates are ranked by the AI according to their overall score and displayed in the position’s candidate list, with the top matches appearing first. The AI Resume Review results will also be available from the Evaluation tab of each candidate.

Assign a teammate to evaluate the results of the AI Resume Review.
AI Resume Review is a tool designed to assist you. After the resume is evaluated and the candidate is ranked based on the AI's overall score, you still need to review the results and decide how to proceed with the candidates.
If you want Recruit to automatically trigger AI Resume Review when a candidate reaches the step, turn Auto-start on.
- Choose the requirements you want AI Resume Review to consider for the review:
- Both public and internal requirements
- Internal requirements only
- Configure Must requirements:
- Requirements that include the words “must” or “mandatory” are identified as Must requirements
- You can choose between Flexible match or Strict match behavior:
- Flexible match: AI Resume Review considers mandatory requirements when calculating the overall score, but candidates are not automatically assigned a Low fit rating if the Must requirement is unmet.
-
Strict match: Candidates who do not meet one or more Must requirements are automatically assigned a Low fit rating.
📝Note: If the position uses Strict match, candidates who do not meet at least one Must requirement receive a Low fit rating, even if they meet other position requirements.
-
Decide whether to add a review step after the AI Resume Review is finished or have Recruit automatically move the candidate to the next step in the workflow.
⚠️Important:
- For AI Resume Review to run, the candidate must have an uploaded resume, and the position must include a detailed list of the requirements needed for the option you selected:
- Both public and internal requirements.
- Internal requirements only.
- Internal requirements allow you to add criteria that matter to your hiring team but are not shared publicly with candidates.
- If the requirements or resume are updated after the review, the results may no longer be relevant, and the process will need to be re-run.
