Use a pre-screening questionnaire to collect important candidate details during the application process. This helps speed up screening, gives your team more insight early in the hiring process, and makes it easier to review responses later in Recruit or in a downloaded report.
Create a custom questionnaire
From the left-side menu, select Library > Questionnaires > Pre-screening.

Click ➕ Add.
Give your questionnaire a title and add as many questions as necessary by clicking the plus ➕ icon. Questions are designed to gather essential details about candidates, such as their experience, motivation, and qualifications, providing valuable insights into their suitability for the role.

Choose the type of answer you want for the questions: short answer, paragraph, single choice, dropdown, or checkbox.
Click Save.
Save answers to candidate fields
Short answer questions can be connected to candidate fields so that they automatically save answers candidates provide.

⚠️ Important: If the field selected is Salary expectations, the answer will only be visible to teammates with permission to see the field.
Knockout questions
Questions with single-choice or dropdown answers can be designated as knockout questions, serving as essential filters. If a candidate provides an incorrect answer to a knockout question, it will lead to an automatic rejection from the hiring process, and you get to keep the applications for future use.

Enable the questionnaire
Once your questionnaire is prepared, you have two options for its application to job positions. Make the questionnaire available for:

Every job application — Select Enable for: All positions.

A specific location or position — Select Enable for: Selected locations and positions.

To enable for a specific location:
Navigate to Settings > Locations.
Select a location and navigate to the Questionnaires tab

Add a questionnaire and click Save.

To enable for a specific position:
Navigate to Position > Settings tab
Scroll down to Questionnaires.

Choose the questionnaire you would like to add to the application process.

Candidates fill out the questionnaire
Candidates fill out the questionnaires:
By applying online.
By following a link to the questionnaire in the “Thanks for applying” email sent to them. Make sure to visit the Email templates page to customize the text of the link to the questionnaires.
✉️ The Link to questionnaire placeholder will only be included in the email when the candidate has questionnaires to fill out.
Review the candidate’s answers
Once a questionnaire is submitted, it will be available for review under the Application tab on the candidate’s profile.
