Zinc transforms reference checks from a manual task into a seamless, automated step in your hiring process.

  • Save time with automated reference requests

  • Gain deeper insights through structured, verified feedback

  • Improve consistency across all reference checks

Configure the integration

  1. From the left-side menu, select Apps.

  2. Under Background check, select the Zinc tile, then click Continue to setup.

  3. Copy API key.

  4. Go to your Zincwork.com account page, click your name in the bottom left-hand corner, and click Add API key to paste the Recruit API Key.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Back in Recruit, click Activate.

Refresh the API key

You can generate a new API key at any time. For example, you may want to refresh it if the current key may have been exposed or your organization requires credentials to be changed periodically.

  1. From the left-side menu, go to Apps.
  2. Search for Zinc, select the active integration, then click Continue to setup.
  3. From the Setup tab, click Refresh Key.
  4. Copy the new API key.
  5. In Zinc, replace the previous Spark Hire Recruit API key with the new one and save your changes.

Add Zinc to your workflow

👤 Role: All teammates with permission to edit positions

Before getting started

Make sure an Admin or Owner role has configured the integration.

  1. In Recruit, click on a position and navigate to the position’s workflow.

  2. Add a new step or select an existing one.

  3. Change the step type to Zinc.

Send reference questionnaire

  1. Once the candidate reaches the Zinc step, select the reference questionnaire you would like them to take from the drop-down menu. Tests displayed here are created in Zinc.

  2. Select the expiration date of the assessment. By default, the assessment is set to "Expire after 3 days." However, you also have the option to select "Never Expires" if you wish to keep it open indefinitely.

  3. Click Start.

    • If you want the assessment to automatically start when a candidate reaches the step, turn on the Auto-start toggle.

📝 Note: If you don’t see the Auto-start option, the feature is not available for that assessment app.

View responses

  • Once a reference questionnaire is completed, candidates in the step will receive an email, and the step will automatically be marked as complete.

  • To view the feedback, click the Zinc step in the candidate's workflow, then click See on Zinc.

  • You can also choose to skip the Zinc step by clicking Mark as completed.

  • If the questionnaire is submitted after the step is marked complete, the links to the reference won’t be updated.

📝 Note: When a reference questionnaire is complete, it may take up to an hour to be updated in Recruit.
